Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple
Indic Collective Trust filed an intervention in the SLP (C) No. 24015-24020/2018 – Ramachandrapura Math v. Sri Samsthana Mahabaleshwara Devaru & Ors, before the Supreme Court. Administration rights of the Ramachandrapura Math w.r.t the Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple were in question before the CJI’s bench. The SLP was filed before the SC challenging an order of Karnataka HC quashing the Government Order dated 12.08.2008 – deleting the Gokarna Temple from the List of Notified Institution as per Section
23 of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997 (hereinafter referred to as the “Act”).
Indic Collective had submitted that a C.A. No. 5924/2008 is pending before another bench of the Supreme Court, wherein the constitutionality of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997 has been challenged. It was prayed that the status quo directed by the SC in this other matter should be allowed to maintain as the outcome of the said matter may make the orders passed in the current SLP infructuous. Consequently, the Hon’ble Court has passed an order on 19th April 2021 making an interim arrangement in the form of an ‘Overseeing Committee’ to administer the Temple.
