Monumental and magnificent shrines of the Lord Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu at Shree Purusottam-Kshetra (Puri, Odisha) is one of the four major Dhamas of India. The Temple is one the most sacred centre of pilgrimage and worship, symbolising one of the oldest spiritual and cultural heritages of the world. A Writ Petition was filed by Mrinalini Padhi, a practicing advocate, requesting directions from the Court in relation to important administrative and safety aspects of the Temple. Conduct and role of Sevaks of the Temple were also questioned before the Court.

Impleadment before the Supreme Court –The Indic Collective Trust has filed an impleadment application (Application no. 91293/2018) in the Writ Petition [W.P.(C)No. 649/2018] seeking to assist the Supreme Court on issues relating to Temple Management which the Court is seized of. Specifically, the Trust has sought the promulgation of a model Central legislation which sets the benchmark for minimal interference by the State in secular and religious aspects of Temple administration, thereby respecting the fundamental rights of Hindu Religious denominations. The Trust has sought involvement of the Law Commission of India and the Hindu community in evolving the framework of the model legislation. The impleadment application can be accessed from below:
